Why do I participate in research?

“I was diagnosed with GPA in 2009. My case was ‘crash and burn.’ My symptoms became noticeable in the late Spring and by Labor Day I was in ICU in drug-induced coma and undergoing dialysis. I was lucky that my nephrologist had some experience with vasculitis. I am fortunate in that I recovered and have been symptom free for about 15 years.

After having participated in vasculitis meetings and other events, it became apparent to me that the only way to discover causality and, hopefully, find a cure is for all of us to band together and provide researchers as much information as we can. Our data leads to new insights which lead to new strategies and new treatments which lead to longer remissions and finally to a cure. Please join me in doing our part to advance the cause.”
