Patrick Taus, MD, PhD
Nephrologist
University of North Carolina Health
Dr. Taus is a physician-scientist specializing in nephrology and hypertension, with clinical and research interests in glomerulonephritis and onconephrology.
He received a Vasculitis Foundation Research Grant to support a project targeting a root cause of ANCA-associated vasculitis, a severe autoimmune disease that can lead to kidney failure.
Dr. Taus cares for patients with acute and chronic kidney disease while leading research on the molecular mechanisms underlying these conditions. His laboratory studies the genetic regulation of Proteinase-3, the ANCA vasculitis autoantigen, to develop targeted therapies that may reduce reliance on broad immunosuppression.
He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida and completed his PhD, medical degree, residency, and fellowship training at the University of North Carolina.
