Sebastian Eduardo Sattui Cortes, MD, MS

Director, Vasculitis Center, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center

Dr. Sattui has been associated with the VF since receiving a VCRC/VF Fellowship. He collaborates with the VF on educational material and videos, webinars, patient meetings, and partnership in research. In addition to being the director of the vasculitis center at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Sattui is Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology, University of Pittsburgh.

His goal is to continue to bolster the VF’s mission, to reach and support all people living with vasculitis, to shape and advance research and treatment. He is  interested in increasing international collaboration and support for patients abroad. In addition, he wants to help grow the pipeline of vasculitis specialists through training and support of early career physicians.

“I’m particularly thankful for the VF’s growing international footprint and the vision to reach all people living with vasculitis worldwide, which has resulted in different programs including “Aprendiendo de Vasculitis”, a program I was very closely involved in,” Dr. Sattui said. “I’m committed to helping all programs that support patients from under-represented minorities as well as collaborations and support of patients abroad. We have a unique opportunity to collaborate with other national/regional organizations, to increase support of all people living with vasculitis, regardless of where they are.”

His specific study interests include patient-centered research, especially focused on improving the care and outcomes of older adults with vasculitis and polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR).
